Context

The increasing workload puts teachers at the forefront of all professions regarding burnout. Because they are often more than just teachers for students, Boost a Teacher puts them in the spotlight.

The concept simplifies their daily work and promotes inspiration, appreciation and cooperation for a stronger sense of community among teachers. – The goal was to balance social, economic and creative intentions to create a fictitious competitive start-up.

How might we

provide relief and appreciation in the daily life of teachers?

Challenge

The stress loads of the teacher's profession have reached their limit since the corona pandemic. Interviews have shown that teachers often work as lone warriors without fixed working hours and continue working after school. Reasons for this are, apart from an old-fashioned school system, despite the increasingly complex demands on teachers. And in the long term, the fear of change leads to a lack of transparency.

How might we

promote interaction, inspiration and networking among teachers across schools?

Approach

The analyzed theories about pedagogy and educational systems and interviews with stakeholders formed the basis of the project. The vision for the target group, which consists of school management, teachers and teaching graduates, was to strengthen the sense of community within the college personnel. The idea was to make this possible through a service that creates inspiration, networking and appreciation. Strategic methods converged the knowledge and prototypes were tested.
Business models were developed for the niche found in the market. Finally, a financial model clarified the financing and allows a pitch with a well-founded cost estimate for interested investors.

Result

Boost a Teacher offers the answer to an old-school system. Three products accompany teachers daily and bring interaction and exchange between colleagues. – They create a place for inspiration in everyday work life and increase the well-being of a teacher.

Learnings

The project gave us a deep insight into the education system and identified the reasons for existing weaknesses and strengths. – As designers, we wanted to use digitalization to introduce an agile working culture in the education sector.

Although we didn't know each other initially, we created a professional and effective workflow. We tried to keep stress levels low during the pandemic through routines and clear agreements. We were able to work well together remotely. – I took on a calming role in my team and actively listened to others' perspectives. My strength was conceptualizing the service design and coordinating which aspects would be explored in depth.
